Well they would have had a 3 day weekend if they just left it alone....since today is Friday, LOL! I realize it wouldn't always fall on a Friday though!

On June 28 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_28), 1968 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968), the United States Congress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Congress) passed the Uniform Holidays Bill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Holidays_Bill), which moved three holidays from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend and for the first time recognized Columbus Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Day) as a federal holiday. The holidays included Washington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington)'s Birthday (which evolved into Presidents' Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidents%27_Day_%28United_States%29)), Veterans Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veterans_Day), and Memorial Day. The change moved Memorial Day from its traditional May 30 date to the last Monday in May. The law took effect at the federal level in 1971 . After some initial confusion and unwillingness to comply at the state level, all fifty states adopted the measure within a few years, although Veterans Day was eventually changed back to its traditional date.

Yeah, like all the Presidents' birthdays, they moved it to make a Monday holiday, and a three day weekend.....
