Yesterday we watched the movie "October Sky". It was a well-planned move on my part to keep my son interested in space. ;) It worked and now he wants to build rockets. He has done a small one before, but he is ready to put up mission control in the back yard.

Are there online resources, clubs, or websites that might be helpful? TIA

has some great stuff! We've purchased some of their less expensive rocket kits. http://catalog.pitsco.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1

To go along with it you could add in building a rocket from a craft store or Wal-Mart. Looks interesting and for older children.

He and his dad are members of a local group affiliated with the National Association of Rocketry. You might take at look at NAR's website and see if they have anything of interest to you and your son: http://www.nar.org/

Also, the best place my guys have found to buy rockets and supplies is Michael's. Look for those 40% off coupons. They are like gold when it's time to buy more engines!

You might have hear of this but Backyard Ballistics (http://www.amazon.com/Backyard-Ballistics-Cannons-Cincinnati-Dynamite/dp/1556523750/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212159524&sr=1-1) is a good book to start with.

October Sky is a great movie. It has been awhile since we have seen it. We should rent it again.
