Growing Grapes & Raspberries

Does anyone grow grapes? I read in a book that it's best to get a cutting in dormant wood of a grapevine (or something somewhat similar). A friend who has grapes said he's got a start for me - it's a spring offshoot of the main plant (kind of like a strawberry plant would have a sucker). Is this OK to transplant and train into our main vine?

Also, re: raspberries - is it too late to plant them? I live in the Inland Northwest. Avg. temps. now are around 75-80.
