This next year I'm giving my 9th grader the option to choose a few different areas and do a comprehensive historical/cultural study of them for history. i wanted something deeper than just a one or two page form.
I like the way A Beka's State Notebook gives them guidance on researching and organizing their learning. Is there something similar that would work for a high schooler?
So far he's chosen France and a couple places in the Middle East. I've found some thematic books that are geared more for 6th and under, but I'm holding out, lol......

One of the lap-booking companies, I believe it's Knowledge box central, has a really nice choose your country lap-book. Also NotebookingPages.com has a set of notebook pages for a country report. Hope this will help.

I know that MFW sells the "How to Write a Country Report" to go w/ their 7th/8th grade supplement for the ECC program. I think it's written for the 3rd - 6th grade level, but MFW recommends it for the 7th/8th graders in the ECC program. I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know if it would be too "easy" for your 9th grader. I *think* it might just give ideas on what to include and you could leave it up to your dc as to what to write and what to include. HTH.

thanks everyone!
I haven't decided to buy anything just yet, but will keep those sources in mind.
The closest thing I've found so far [online and free] is a similar outline to Pongo's here:
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/Schools/travilahes/pfheritage/heritagestu.html
I've added a few things, especially about history, gvt, economics, global effect, relationship to US, and art/ music...as well as a few projects [diorama, food, etc].
