..."Quick Reply" or do you do it the other way?

I'm still having a hard time figuring out this format, and I can't find replies, many times, because it's under a subthread. I'm reading (or I was) in the hybrid mode, so I can see them, sometimes (if I click on the portion of the thread that says "more replies below current depth", or whatever), but if I'm reading in the linear version, replies are sprinkled throughout the thread, and so I can't just go to the last page and see the latest reply. I have to scroll through all the pages.

Is that as clear as mud, lol?

What are you guys doing; "Quick Reply" or...the other way? And how does it place posts in the thread?

It occured to me that those reading in anything other than Linear (which is how I view) would be seeing my post where it probably didn't belong if I use the Quick Reply, so I don't.

I use the quill+quote button in the box, if I want to quote a certain poster - in the lower right hand corner of a post.

But if I just want to add my 2 cents to the whole then I click on the "post reply" button.

If I'm replying to the thread in a general way I use quick reply. If I'm replying to a specific post then I usually quote it so that it's clear to whom I'm replying regardless of how people are viewing the forum.

I click the quick reply button on the person I want to answer.

It leaves a clear rabbit trail for those in threaded mode. And if you're in linear mode, it doesn't mess you up in any way.
