No you don't need both (I found that out the hard way). If you buy the student notebook, it includes all of the maps. But Uncle Josh's only includes the maps. I haven't used it yet, but it looks like a really good program and the student notebook looks good.

The notebook cd is what you want - has some worksheets, weekly question sheets, and maps keyed to each weeks work. The question sheets, at the bottom, tell a kid what to find on a globe or atlas and mark on his map.

You just need the notebook CD not Uncle Josh's as well. However...The Notebook CD seems to be designed to accompany the book, not replace it and there are frequent references to the Ultimate Geography and Timeline Guide. I would definetly look for the new revised version of UGT book. Also-you will not be able to complete the assignments with out an Atlas and depending on the level you may want to time assignments to library trips if you need to use other geography resources without buying them. Also some good colored pencils.

We love the program-the kids are excited about geography lessons!

This is good to know. I was planning on ordering the notebook. I already have both the Ultimate Timeline and Geography and the Trail Guide. I just need the maps from the notebook. Thanks for posting.
