We listened to the first one also. We really liked it. I have heard some say they thought the children were too good to be realistic. But we thought the story to be very interesting as a lot happens to the the family. Will have to look for the "grown up" one.

Well, they do not have a father. I have not read them, but when they were recommended to me it was implied that he did not die, but either was never around or left them. So it would take some explaining if that is the case. Anyone know?

Oh yes, the father had died.

We listened to it together. I don't remember anything objectionable. The children were VERY good (yes, a little unrealistic, but a great model to strive for :) ).

Sweet little books. It has been a long long time since I read them. They are old enough that any racial references won't be politically correct but you can swap the word easily enough and I am not even sure that comes up. I remember the father being dead . I think he got sick or something.
