For those who plan a summer break from school, when do you plan on beginning? Our last day is May 30th (yikes, 7 days). Kids are thrilled :)
We will do school two weeks in July and two weeks in August. Want the entire month of June off to let them feel like it's a REAL summer break. As first year hs'ers DCs want to be on similar cycle to their friends.

We started this past Friday. It was time for all of us! I'm thinking of how to sneak in some educational things without it being obvious. This was our first year hs'ing and I'm thinking of going on schedule next year with the ps so the kids can play with their friends when they are off. :)

We will work casually for the remainder of the week, probably.
Well start back the first full week after the 4th of July.

I might as well start now because we haven't done any school this week yet. I am frantically trying to get ready for dd's graduation and open house this weekend. My original plan was to start summer vacation on Memorial Day.

. . . a few weeks ago, I decided I just didn't want to. My daughter is already home from college, which makes it much more difficult to corral my son into focusing on doing any schoolwork. And he is scheduled to go away with his choir for about a week in early June. On top of that, we chose to throw in a whole battery of standardized testing that wasn't in my original plan for the year. So, I finally decided it just wasn't worth it to keep forcing the issue.
I dropeed a couple of pieces of curricula that weren't working particularly well and that we aren't planning to continue next year and cut back on the amount of math we planned to finish for the year, making it possible for us to complete everything else and walk away on May 30.

Three days left, and it's really minimal: 30-45 minutes per day of history! This gives us a week before the June whirlwind begins, then a brief lull, then a secondary whirlwind in mid July. A few more quiet weeks, and then our school year will start in mid/late August.
We're ready to play for a bit!

We started last Friday - we're mid-remodeling and it's going badly and we're due to meet up with my family at the beach this weekend. The boys are spending this week sorting school stuff and it's so nice to have the pressure gone. Our evaluations have been done, just need to stick them in the mail. I am happy that oldest ds and I made it through his first year of high school and we're both very happy with what he's accomplished. Next year looks to be very challenging.
years of homeschooling that I've ever stopped the first of May. We usually end up about May 20-23, but no more. I LOVE being off in May before the school kids get out and start knocking on our door. We've had a BEAUTIFUL spring this year and it's been wonderful to have a slower pace of life with the windows open and the breeze blowing in. We'll go back the first of August when it's so humid and hot that we can't enjoy the outside.

We're taking it in fits and starts. We've been off for about a week now because of the pukes (and now I'm starting to feel not so hot... urgh!) and also to just enjoy the glorious weather. We must enjoy the glorious weather when it finally arrives in Canada. It's so very short lived... the boys are spending hours outside each day, digging and hammering things. It's great.
We'll get back to school for a couple of weeks and then probably take another break... and then we'll start full on again in mid-August probably.

We've got one week left.. then that gives me less than a week to get our house "settled" for the summer, order books for next year, and pack before we leave for the States.
No pressure, no pressure.. :willy_nilly:
