I have recently received my TOG Yr 1 for next school year. I am really excited about using TOG. I intend to use at least some of the writing portion of the program. I had planned on continuing to use R&S for grammar even though TOG recommends Easy Grammar. I figured since we had been using it and we're doing well, why change? But now I'm looking at my schedule and I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I was wondering if I should just skip all the writing exercises in R&S and use the TOG ones instead. Has anyone done that? I'm trying to maybe streamline R&S a bit. We already don't do all the exercises in each lesson, but I'm considering (GASP) skipping lessons! Any thoughts on how to make this work would be appreciated.

We are currently using TOG and will be starting R&S for grammar next school year (3rd grade). I like the TOG writng assignments so my plan is to do some of R&S orally and cut out the writing that may be assigned and just stick with TOG for that portion. Does that make sense?

I used Tapestry of Grace for the writing. I skipped all the writing assignments in Rod and Staff. I also did Rod and Staff orally and skipped lessons that I didn't think we needed. It worked well.

We did essentially the same thing, but it was with Shurley Grammar. We axed the Shurley writing component which isn't that great, and popped in the TOG writing assignment.

Thanks for your responses. I feel better now. I wouldn't mind going back to doing the lessons orally (and I'm sure the kids would love it) except I already don't have time to teach everyone as it is. English was one subject they could do almost completely on their own. But, it would be so much faster orally. They get so bogged down in writing things down. Hmmm....
