Hi! I came to the hive May 14 so I am just learning how to get around. I have four dc and each one learns totally differently!! I knew that each of my dc would be different, but I was not prepared..
I wanted to hs since ds12's birth. He began at 4 yr reading and traditional hs workbooks (ACE independent learning). He has excelled and is self-taught in almost every area. He even surpassed me in animal science. I started classical studies with him when he was in gr2.
DD10 learned to read last year. Phonics was a tearful struggle. She does not know digraphs, etc. She is at gr2 level (my opinion). I have never had any of my children evaluated or tested. She loves to sing and has started to sing in our church this year. She enjoys baking and paper crafts.
Ds8 does not seem to have desire to learn. He would rather draw. His artist skills have surprised me and others. He was drawing his Hotwheels in 3D from bird's eye view at age 4. He reads at gr1 level and is quickly catching up to dd10.
Ds6 is learning his letter sounds with no problem. He is constantly asking me "What does that say?"
We do history reading, coloring and map work together. Ds12 does additional work alone. We do nature study and science experiments together. We also have Bible reading and memory together.
I do not have a hs support group. The hsers I do know that live close to me only have young children and teach with consumable workbooks.
Any advice or prayers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jane! I'm getting around to answering your P.M. Just want you to know real quick here, though, that I'll help support you, even though we're a couple of hours away (that seems so short, compared to everyone else on these boards!).

You should see a message from me in a few minutes!

Although my kids are all older, I'd like to welcome you to the board! This is a place for learning and sharing-- most of us would say that we would not have made homeschooling as big of a success without the help of everyone here.

my familis is coming to the end of our 14th year of homeschooling, and all my dc are teenagers now. It has been a long journey, but ours has been very good.

Ask your questions. Everyone is here to learn and share--

Jean

I just wanted to say "Welcome." I'm new to this board as well, and have found so much information.
