We are going on week 14 of Core C and we started in August. Before you GASP!!!! We have had a very roller coaster school year and we have slacked off of the history and science portion of our school and concentrated on the core subjects i.e. math, LA, spelling, handwriting, ect..
I hate to drop this but they are really disinterested in it right now anyway, probably because I haven't been very consistent in keeping on a regular schedule with it. I would probably read some of the read alouds this summer to them, but I would drop the rest. We are still working on getting math and language arts done before our next school year starts.
I am feeling like a really horrible mother/teacher right now, but most of what has happened or not happened could not helped.

We are using core C as well. We are on week 24 or somewhere around there. I skiped several weeks here and there. I disliked Living Long Ago so towards the end we skipped ahead. I skipped Hero Tales as well. We did most of Living Long Ago and then skipped on to Wild Places. I think thats the name anyway. We are still doing the read alouds as well as the readers though. I think you are fine. Feel free to skip what's not working for you. You are not a bad mother! In my opinion, what matters most in the early grades are the three R's anyway. Don't sweat it!

It's so not a big deal. You and your kids aren't loving it, and it's not the 3 Rs, so it's basically just gravy at this age. You could either sell the books and get something you like better, or hang on to them and your kids may be more interested when they are a little older. A lot of the Core C books are better for older kids anyway, in my opinion.
My boys did Core C -- oh, 5 years ago? 4? Anyway, they remember NOTHING. But yet they are great readers, history buffs, etc. So it's not like this is a crucial thing to do.

:iagree: Your basics are most important.... if you are toying w/ the idea and thinking you want to stop... and given... you had a roller coaster year.... take a needed break...
If you really want... look through the core and any books you have and pick a few for the kids to read over the summer... pick ones you think they would enjoy and don't worry about the curriculum...
Just another thought...

:iagree: with everyone else. Go ahead and stop, you can continue with read-alouds that you kids might enjoy, like Dr. Dolittle and Wizard of Oz, those were some of our favorites. Hope that helps!

I'd give it a break & then pick out some books that look fun (or leave them out & let your kids pick books they are interested in) and just read those. Core C really doesn't have to be done in a specific order, and it's ok to drop books you just aren't interested in (or if you just need a break, etc...!). My kids picked up the Children's Encyclopedia from K this past fall--they were 10 & 8 then), and kept it in the car for 2 months, to read whenever we went on trips! So you never know, your kids may pick a book back up later, too!
