Isaac now has a launch date for his baked goods business. He's trying to figure out what his most likely candidates for good sales will be.
So, what would you be most likely to buy, whether at a bake sale or by "special order," from a kid or a family you knew?

Maybe setting up a sale in order to gain interest and to sample the goods. Then handing out information for sales by special order.
Ok, I put this in before you had the poll thing up!

Some kind of a cake/bread: banana bread, zucchini bread, coffee cake, various muffins, brownies/blondies.

I would be more likely to buy a whole batch of cookies, as opposed to a single cookie (there ARE 6 of us, LOL).

I voted for single cookie, unbaked pie, and unbaked quiche, but actually a single brownie would be at the top of the list.

I would buy pies. I love pie, but I can't make a decent crust, and I don't care for store-bought pies.

We're having a cul-de-sac-wide yard sale in a couple of weeks, and that's when he'll debut his wares. We're trying to figure out what he should make for the yard sale, and what he should have on the "You can also order . . . " sheet.

Any if they were gluten free.

I voted brownies or single cookie, especially if it was loaded with nuts and chocolate chips.

What would something like that be? Like, a normal thing that just happens to be gluten free, not a special, gluten-free version of something that normally has gluten?

I voted for the batch of brownies but what I would really go for would be a homemade peach pie!
I voted for the quiche. I would also be interested in banana bread by the loaf.

Well.....I bake all the time, so I would not buy anything. BUT most folks are not me, and I know frozen cookie dough sales are big at the local school. So I think that ground maybe covered - I'd steer him towards the loaf of Banana bread and
other fresh breads.

I voted for the pies, as I think they are the most labor intensive. The other things are all fairly easy for me to make. I can make a pie but I rarely do since it's a lot of work for me.
I would have pies at the yard sale and offer samples of them for people to try/purchase and then let people know they can buy a whole one.

Can I add a slight variation? What *I* would buy (well, aside from some sort of magically delicious gluten, egg and nut free treat of any kind -- but I bet that may be a little more niche than Isaac is looking for, lol) is:
frozen (unbaked) pie crust
Sure, I *can* make 'em myself, but there are times when I'd love to "make" my own pie for my family (well, the non-allergic ones) without the hassle of making fresh crusts. You wouldn't believe what I spent on this (http://www.vermontmysticpie.com/frozen_pie_shells.asp) at WholePaycheck recently when I realized I had promised dh a fresh cherry pie and I was driving home at nearly-dinner-time already! If Isaac were here, I'd buy a *stack* of real, made-with-butter crusts rolled out on waxed paper, folded into quarters, and frozen for me. And I'd happily pay $3 a crust (which is still less than I paid for the Vermont Mystic Pie ones)...

DH was walking through the room so I asked him. He said he loves banana bread but would be hesitant to buy a whole loaf if he didn't know it would be good, so he loved the idea of being able to buy a slice, and if he liked it, he would then buy a whole loaf. Also we like the idea of the pie...love to have a quality pie I could pop in the oven on hand. We both cook alot, but would definitely buy something from someone if it was well made. The one poster mentioned anything gluten free...this is really worth thinking about. I saw on the news two bakeries in NY that sell all over the country and all they bake is gluten free items. Maybe you could start a niche speciality.

You did not give the option to buy one of everything, so I voted for a loaf of banana bread. :D What I used to love, when there was a group of church ladies doing a bake sale every Monday on my way to work, were the loaves of yummy cake-breads, often involving chocolate. YUM!
I would pretty much buy anything on that list. Frozen cookie dough is such a good idea! I would never have thought of that! I would buy cookies too. And pies. Anything sweet, really; I'm not all that picky.
Also, the pot pie sounds like a wonderful idea, too, but to be honest, I would be hard pressed to overcome the call of the sweet stuff. It sounds like I need to come garage saling in your neighborhood! And plan on spending all my money at Isaac's table!!!!!

I voted for pot-pie. I love a good pot-pie, but all the recipes I've found are kind of labor intensive. There are a few locally made ones for sale at the grocery stores here, but they are outrageously expensive.

I love pies but don't like making them and the store bought ones never taste as good. I also like having frozen cookie dough so I can make a few cookies last minute when needed. Or I could eat the dough raw.:tongue_smilie:

I voted for fresh strawberry pie because that is what I would be least likely to do myself. :-D
