Do you buy these from TOG?
I would like to start my Grammar students in Lapbooks and my Dialectic student doing a timeline. Are the Lapbook cd's worth the money?

Marsha,

I have the Homeschool in the Woods Timeline CD and yes, it is worth the $$. Why? Because I don't have to buy Timeline figures ever again. I do have to add to it because it isn't exhaustive. Like it doesn't have all the First Ladies, but it has most of what I need and is a good base. What I really like about it is that I can copy the figures and paste them into MS Word (or other programs) to create a whole page that goes with that week, only printing the figures I need. Or I can resize them for other projects (lapbooks, display boards, even coloring pages-if you don't mind the amount of black).

I use a different Timleine by Knowledge Box Central, so I can't help you there.

The Lapbook CD's are great if you like things to go hand in hand. I do think they are expensive compared to the Hands of a Child (HOAC) lapbooks that go on sale on a regular basis. But there are other reasons why I feel the HOAC work better for us. The TOG lapbooks don't come with the answers. You can find those in the Teacher notes. The child is supposed to pick up what they need to do them in their reading, but at the UG level my love to write child isn't very good about hearing information and turning around to write it out. She can, but she gets really hung up on Spelling or isn't happy with her answer. HOAC lapbooks come with an information guide that will not only answer all the questions but generally has the information organized in order that the lapbooks are presented. My dd just does so much better reading for the information herself and then copying down the answer.

Then there is the volume issue. She is used to doing one lapbook a day, and TOG only has 2-3 a week.

For us HOAC lapbooks are not only chapter but work better for our needs.

No they don't I just buy related topics. To date we have done:

TOG year 2 4th quarter:

Declaration of Independence
Revolutionary War

TOG year 3 1st Quarter (we are on week 3 right now):

Pirates (at dd's request  )

2nd Quarter:

Oregon Trail

3rd Quarter:

Civil War

4th Quarter:

African Continent

She tends to do a history related one and then a science. I am a supermember and get monthly free lapbooks, so I have several I can fill with too: Explorers, Trains...are all that come to mind right now, LOL!

I just bought the above on their 45% off sale, which probably won't happen again till next November, but if you can plan ahead you sure can get them cheap. They do have regular, almost monthly, 25% off sales.
