Between Singapore's Standards versions and the US Editions?

The Standards Edition were reworked to meet the California Standard of Learning in Mathematics. The US Edition is pretty much the same as the Singapore edition with the exception that the currency is changed to American coins and bills.

The US Edition is like the old 3rd Edition, except that currency is changed to American money, and English measurement is added (in addition to the metric that was already there). Plus, there are some American fruits and American children's names thrown in (in addition to Chinese fruits and names). Oh, and the punctuation conventions are Americanized.

The problem with the US Edition has been that the sequence of the subjects taught didn't align with American standards (a problem for some because of standardized testing). In the Standards edition, the subject matter has been rearranged to meet the California standards. It's the same material, but the sequence is different. Also, some of the material from the 2nd Edition, that was removed for the 3rd Edition and the US Edition, has been added back in. I don't know what that material is.

HTH. You can probably get more information from http://www.singaporemath.com

also has more review built into it, which I was drawn to. We have used both the US and the Standard's and I like the Standard's because the extra review, but I don't like that they currently do not have a hs TM. However, I believe that it is being worked on and *I think* they should be ready by the end of this summer. If they have the hs TM ready by the beginning of next fall I will continue with the Standard's Edition, but if not then I will consider going back to the US Edition.

standards edition to begin next year. I just thought that if there is uncertainty in the future of my ds's schooling (i.e. hs vs ps) that it might behoove us to be in pace with ps.....

does anyone know if they plan to continue making the US edition? They'll keep making them as long as sales are sufficient. They've discontinued the 3rd Ed (Singaporean) for this reason.
