Can you tell me about it? We are only in New England for 18 months (and we only have 12 months total to go) and I'd like to take the children to see the Boston area. Can we cycle the Freedom Trail?
Any tips? TIA!

If so, I walked it 20 years ago, when I was in college. I don't know that it woudl be easy to bike--it seems like it mostly follows sidewalks through Boston. If this is the right one (it's a blue line painted on the sidewalk), it was a great experience and quite easily to walk. It ends where the U.S.S. Constitution is docked. At the time, I knew much less about American HY than I do now, but it was still great.
If this isn't the right trail, please ignore the above.

There are too many great buildings to go into to want to worry about bikes, and I think that the traffic would be undesirable as well.
It is a pretty short trail--only 2 miles if you do the long version, I think. Be sure you read "Johnny Tremain" or see the movie first. Lots of the places in the trail are in the book!
It was really interesting to see the Old South Meeting House and the Old North Church. And the replica of the Mayflower was amazing--I had had no idea that those ships were so SMALL!

I don't know how easy it would be to bike. It is not a hiking trail, but a sightseeing path through downtown Boston. More of a walking tour of American history sights.
Knowing something about American history makes this more fun.
We walked most of it in one day with our teenager. It would have been fun to do a little more window shopping if we'd had time. Sign up for one of the walking tours that start in the park. We thought that was interesting. I 'd found a book version tour guide at a used bookstore. You might look for something similar.
We enjoyed the Constitution as well. And we climbed the tower at Bunker Hill (gasp, pant, pant.)
Read up before you go so your dc will know the people and places they will hear about.
Don't miss whale watching while you are in NE. We land-locked Texans loved seeing those magnificent creatures.

It's really wonderful, but made for walking, not biking.
Don't miss Plymouth. We loved that, too!

Everyone I know who homeschools has walked it. I think if you are in the city, it is definately something not to miss.
Although, I prefer spending my time on the North Shore, and W. Mass when I get the chance.
