I'm trying to find sources for online high school classes and I came across this on the internet. Some of their courses look good, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's had experience with them.

TIA

No experience, but is this run by the same person who has such a horrible reputation? There are several names for her schools--I'll research and get back to you.

You can see a list of the people that run Sevenstar Academy at:

I am sure we are not the same people(person) referred to in the earlier post.

There are monthly webinars that explain the program to home schoolers and testimonials from homeschoolers on the site.

We love home schoolers and love to serve.

I think you are thinking of a different school. The name had a similar ring. I remember reading some of the complaints from the other school and then looking at the website at the time. This school looks different from the web page. I noticed Sevenstar has Chinese available. That would be unfortunate if people are confusing it with a different school that was making people unhappy. How could we find out more information? Thanks.

I can't figure out the cost however. How much would it cost to take either Chinese 1 or 2? Thanks.

Here's the tuition page... I'd still really like to find someone with experience there.

Morningstar Academy is the one you may be thinking of that has the bad rep. Or affiliated with those that have the bad rep.

I could be wrong, but I believe the American Homeschool Association has a TON of info on those that have the bad rep. If you go to their site you might be able to ask about the place you ARE interested in working with to double check their credentials and perhaps locate others who use them. I'm not really good at digging for info like this, but someone should be able to help.

That having been said I don't know much about AHA...and if anyone has gotten burned by them...benefit of the doubt and two sides to every story sort of thing...however, that may give you somewhere to start.

I've never known anyone who has enrolled with Sevenstar.

I'm sort of stunned at the cost of courses. Oy.

It's pretty comparable with the courses for high school offered at our local co-op. Yep, it's expensive!

This seems pretty in line with other online courses I've looked at/used.

I just think of it as comparable to a private school.... and then it seems kind of reasonable :001_smile:.

Hi Grace is Sufficient:

I'd like to speak up on behalf of Sevenstar as one of the course facilitators. I am in my 3rd year with Sevenstar. As with any new form of education, the kinks have been getting worked out but my experience with them allows me to overwhelmingly promote the school. I have taught students across the US and from Italy, Brazil, the Philippines, Australia and Indonesia. My students have all adapted well to the online environment and I would say 80% of my students are highly successful. In three years I've had only one student who failed the class. I'm not sure what the individual costs are...but I've not heard complaints from parents or students, I believe, because of the quality education their students receive from Sevenstar.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your offer. You may not have noticed that the question was asked in May of 2008. My daughter did, in fact, end up taking a course the following academic year. To be honest, it was not a good fit. Although I gather that at least some of the courses offered do use textbooks, the one she took simply directed her to websites to facilitate her completion of the various assignments. I am sure that some students would find that a benefit, but she prefers textbooks.
