Hi all!
(Momof7, I am so glad to have you back-I really valued your opinion)
I am really trying to straighten out my whole approach to our homeschool. I need to improve dd11's (going into 6th in the fall) ability to write. It seems as if 6th grade has approached so quickly and I am really wanting to work on particular skills rather than subjects. Dd11 is my first so I am learning how to be the best teacher I can be along with her. I have made many mistakes. We have never tackled a serious grammar program (like R&S) but we have used an assortment of approaches to grammar and writing.
We have used: 2nd started First Lang. Lessons
3rd Primary Lang. Lessons + some parts of speech (Montessori style)
4th Intermediate Lang. Lessons and finished parts of speech (Montessori style)
5th Interm. Lang. Lessons+started and still using
Writing Tales 2
6th plan use ILL only as independent work
finish WT2
using Lessons in English: Grammar and Composition by C.C. Long (free from Google
books) to help with finances. I like this grammar book and think it will work well-taking her grammar up a notch or two and yet not too overwhelming for her level at this age. I would also like to learn how to improve her narrations particularily in history. I had considered using IEW-just the American History book to work on this. I also liked having a program I can continue to use throughout highschool. I probably need something to hold my hand. I trust my instincts but worry they are not enough. I have already learned that this year is more about me as a teacher and my self education than my children. It is also about MY time management.
My question is: Is IEW a program that will guide me and remind me each year what I need to teach in order to best educate both girls? If not, what plan might I consider based on what I already have going?
Thank you very much!
P.S. I had printed Momof7's writing plan at one point but lost it.
