My son just finished the entire Magic Tree House series, including the Merlin Missions.
I'm now looking for other "fun" books that he can read that don't have much to do with school work and continue on the same or higher reading level.
What did your kids like when they were seven?

My ds7 likes...
The My Father's Dragon Trilogy by Ruth Stiles Gannett
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books by Betty MacDonald
The Littles books
Anything about Robin Hood
the Thorton Burgess books...highly recommend!
I know there's more, but I can't think right now. If I come up with more, I'll post them.:)

My son really likes the Dragon Slayer's Academy series of books. I think there's over 20 books in the series. Very funny!

My 7yo is enjoying Enid Blyton books at the moment and is working through the Mr Galliano series. Also, an abridged version of The Secret Garden.

Who is the author of these and what are a few titles in the series? I have asked several different bookstores about them and they look at me like I am nuts. Thanks!

The author is Kate McMullan. I think I found them on Amazon. I also found a few at our local educational store. I'll list the titles of the first few book below:
1. The new kid at school
2. Revenge of the dragon lady
3. Class trip to the cave of doom
We've read the 1st 3 so far and my boys love them. They're really light-hearted and funny.

I was just going to add Geronimo Stilton series! We also get some on tape/cd to listen when we have a lot of driving to do. They are really well done.
~Tina who is off to look up some of the other recommend books. :)

My 7 year old daughter loves all the Roald Dahl books, and I could see a boy loving them as much as a girl. What about the Encyclopedia Brown series too? Other than that, we're strictly girly stuff here!

My ds 7 loves Roald Dahl. That's what he went to after the Magic Tree House Books. He is still working on Roald Dahl.

Joanna Hurwitz's Riverside Kids books, starting with Rip-Roaring Russell (http://www.amazon.com/Rip-Roaring-Russell-Riverside-Johanna-Hurwitz/dp/0064421554/). These gentle, non-fantastical books increase in reading level as the series progresses.

My son recently read all of the MTH books as well. I'm having him read the Sonlight Grade 3 readers and one of the books from that list is The Littles. He loves The Littles and is now reading that entire series.
Mary Pope Osbourne also wrote a series of books called Tales from the Odyssey. I suspect he's really going to like those as well.

Both of my sons loved the Little Britches series. Similar to Little House with a boy as the main character.

My ds is a big MTH fan too. He also enjoys Andrew Lost, A-Z Mysteries, Magic School Bus chapter books, and Time Warp Trio books.
Thanks for the post. I see a trip to the library in my near future to check out all these series.
