I'm not happy using a spreadsheet for keeping track of my spending. It's too much overhead each month. Does anyone have a financial program they use on a Linux operating system? I don't need anything that is complicated. Just a step up from a spreadsheet.
Didn't the guy that used to work at Peace Hill Press create something?

(Jenne's husband stepping in for a bit)
If you want free/open-source, the usual suspect is GnuCash (http://www.gnucash.org/). It's like most open-source software - functional, but doesn't necessarily look pretty.
If you want payware, try Moneydance (http://moneydance.com). It's done in Java, and so will run anywhere with a JVM. I use it on MacOSX, having moved from Quicken on Windows because of Intuit's 3-year sunset policy. (Compare to Moneydance, which gives 3 years of free upgrades.)

We're using Fedora (operating system).
Thank you for the replies. I have used GnuCash in the past Though MoneyDance certainly looks nice, both of those programs offer more than I need. I remember all the features of GnuCash being cumbersome. I don't need to keep track of overall finances (like our investments), just my personal spending categories like groceries, clothing, curriculum, etc.
Any other recommendations?

I used GnuCash on linux and mac. It does take getting used to with the double entry. It never quite did what I wanted budget wise, but I could track my spending on it. I remember looking for other options a few times and never found anything else to suit my needs more than that did on the linux system.
For the mac I found an evelope system program that I love. Seem like somebody ought to be able to write one for linux!

Thanks, Joni. I think I'll have to resign my search for now. I'll tweak the spreadsheet and give it another couple of months before I try GnuCash again.
An envelope system is exactly what I want. *Sigh*

I found Charlie's budgeting program! He's the one that used to work at Peace Hill Press.
It looks great!

I use YNAB and love it. It is sort of based on Dave Ramsey's budgeting ideas. I am not sure if it will work on your system or not, although I know they were working on a Mac version. http://www.youneedabudget.com/
