So I heard a burrowing sound coming from my dishwasher yesterday morning and I ardently denied it. Maybe it was the cat stuck in a cupboard (no), maybe it was the dishwasher cooling down (yeah, right), or maybe the sound was coming from outside (wishful thinking). Anyway, I ignored it. Until I opened up the cutlery drawer this morning and realized that a mouse had definitely been in there - more than once.

Please help. Do I call the exterminator? Is there another way to get rid of them for good? Should I pull the dishwasher out and see what's behind it (eek!)?

Set a trap - with peanut butter. Then I noticed you have an 8 year old boy - make him feel "manly" and strong by assigning him the macho duty of throwing it out with the dead mouse!

Oh, you poor thing. Shudder...I'm feeling a bit faint after reading your post, but I'll give it a try.

Yes, you might want to call someone or if you can stand get some traps, and poison. The sticky glue ones from Tom Cat with peanuts already on them work well in our garage. Regular traps with cheese & peanut butter also attract the varmints. We keep Decon out in our garage, but be Careful OF PETS & KIDS. The Decon will kind of kill & dehydrate them into lint. Also, know that traps require you to dispose of them. My dh, does this and I avoid the garage like the plague if one is on the loose.

Gosh, the kitchen... Get me some bleach...I'm having a panic attack. Sending out cyber hugs and good vibes:grouphug:. Can you eat out:scared:?

I, too, had been in denial about the "sounds" from the kitchen late at night. Then last night I actually saw him running across my kitchen floor. I am absolutely sick.

Dh stayed home this morning to clean out the cabinets and had an exterminator come out. We had a trap set with peanut butter with no success for a couple of weeks. The exterminator set out some glue boards and some poison and only charged us $25. He also thoroughly looked through the house and garage and is convinced that it is only one or two and that they are contained to the kitchen area. I thought I was going to throw up when he was in the kids' room looking for them.

So anyways, I am disinfecting everything in my kitchen. The only food that it looked like he had gotten into was a bag of chocolate (dh says that proves its a female mouse).

The upside is that I have lost my appetite. Maybe this is the extreme diet I've been waiting for.

I feel for you. I'll let you know if the glue boards work. Dh will have to come home from work to dispose!

Good luck.

Having this same problem right now.

We have mice every year about this time it seems. We broke down and called pest control last year when they made their way into my bedroom!

When we found droppings behind my sofa a month ago...we called them again. Mice are now gone. Phew. We also have a catch and release trap that typically catches a few mice before pest control come. My ds's enjoy finding them and releasing them outside in the woods across the street.

HA! no catch and release for mice in THIS house, mwahahahaha....

save your money -- don't get an exterminator!

Get a passel of mousetraps, some poison bait blocks, and a buncha Mom Comfort Food/ Beverages. Hot glue a cheerio/cracker to the traps. Add a smidgen of peanut butter. set the poison blocks it as far back out of kiddos' reach as possible.

Sit back and consume Mom Comfort Food and Beverages.

listen for SNAP of a mousetrap. give dc 50 cents for bagging up and disposing of dead mouse AND trap [do NOT try to take the mouse out of the trap, lol]

I nabbed about 5 of those suckers in one week, and now it seems like they are finally [for now] gone.

now we're dealing with the juvenile assassin bugs that came in w/ the sleeping bags off the line. ugh. but they are worth 50 cents a piece to my boys if they find one and notify me so i can catch it.

good luck!!
