Does anyone have any suggestions for simple resources to introduce my K student to the concept of the number line and simple addition and subtraction problems using it? We're not using a specific curriculum at this time (and don't want to).
Thank you!

Learning Resources has some neat hands-on items and a book with number line activities. :+)

I use my tape measure from my sewing table as our number line, and make up addition and subtraction problems. DS gains a lot by seeing how to get the answer and it's helping him to be able to figure problems out more in his head or with his fingers. It uses something I already have on hand here at home, so cost free! :)

This is an idea I pulled from the Singapore Math books.
Cut some paper in half lengthwise and tape it together on the short ends. Draw squares on it so that it looks like a sidewalk. Write the numbers on the squares from 1 to however many you want to go up to.
Then you can take a small toy and have it go for a walk on the number line.
Hope this helps.
