We just found out our boiler was made in 1920! We have been working with the local propane/oil company to try to get the oil burner converted to something more efficient and less expensive. One of the options is converting to a propane burner with on demand water heating.
The boiler heats our daily hot water and we still have hot water radiators and dh likes them. It would be more than we could afford to have an electric hot water heater plus a heat pump and ductwork put in, not to mention the electrical work that would be necessary. Then there is the huge, steel, asbestos covered boiler that would need to be dismantled and taken out of the tiny furnace room.
Still I'm wondering if there are better options besides propane.
Has anyone ever done this or any other type of heating system conversion?
