words at the end of sentences? I know there was a thread a while back on this... I just can not seem to find it. I am looking for any information anyone can provide. Thanks a lot!

Gee... the boards will not let me edit the title.. should be "speech" not speach.

Repeating words or sounds over and over could be a verbal tic. Has your child had motor or verbal tics in the past? How old is s/he? My DS5 has had a succession of various tics, beginning around 2.75 years old. It began with blinking (squeezing his eyes tight every time he blinked), licking his fingers, biting his lower lip, clearing his throat, etc. Sometimes he does or says something and I have to step back and think "is he doing that on purpose or is it something he can't help??"

Does your child seem distressed by the repetitive behavior or does s/he seem oblivious to it? Hopefully s/he's not concerned about it and it's not interfering with his learning or happiness. If it gets to that point, then you may want to seek a professional opinion.

My son had this exact same "tic".
I finally (after years) mentioned it to him and
asked him *why* he does this. He was able to
tell me that he does it while thinking of his next words.
Basically it's a placeholder for him, much like the
word "um" is for others.
It takes awhile for him to think of the rest of what
he wants to say and in the meantime, usually gets
talked over or people think he's done talking.
So, this lets others know there's more to come.
Because it sounds odd, his speech teacher suggested
that I teach him to say "um" instead, but I deplore
habits like that and didn't want to replace one with
another. The speech teacher's reasoning was that it
was more socially understandable than to repeat the last
syllable.
Instead, I told my son that instead of doing that, if he
would just pause while thinking of the rest of what he wanted
to say, I would wait for him to finish his thought. He
never repeated his syllables again.
Twice I have forgotten my promise and while he was paused
to think of his words, I talked right over him, telling him to
finish his thought. He reminded me he was considering his words
and I hope never to forget to give him time to do so.
My ds was 8 at that time.
