If your math program has those timed worksheets (I know Abeka does) can you tell me how many problems students are expected to be able to do and in what amount of time please?
I am needing to check my ds's mastery of basic facts- addition, subtraction and multiplication.
Also, does anyone know where I can print off pages like this keyed to a specific time? I know I can always adjust the time and print from say the MUS website but they don't put many problems on a page.
Thank you

We have a set of timed math sheets we use, there are 100 simple addition math problems per page, 100 subtraction, 100 multiplication, 100 division.
Each one is supposed to be done in 5 minutes, if not, you mark how far you got (say they got 75 correct and didn't finish 25) then they would finish the 25 and their score would be 75. Once they can get all 100 problems answered correctly in 5 minutes they move to a higher level of the problems.
We also have Calculadders...not as many problems, but I think it is 2 or 3 minutes per sheet. I would recommend Calculadders, you usually can find old ones for sale pretty cheap.

Each sheet consists of the basic 100 facts (0-9). The suggest a starting time limit of 5 minutes and work toward 3 minutes or less per sheet. I'm working from memory, so I might be wrong.

but for times I found a standard at logosschool.com that I follow. I've attached a copy of them (I hope).

We have found a supplemental program called Calculadder that has a series of timed math drills. They are published by the Providence Project and can be purchased online or through various vendors such as www.christianbook.com (http://www.christianbook.com). PP's URL is http://www.calculadder.com/intro/default.htm. We love the drills and my dd age 8 is excelling since we started.

We use Singapore. So, we supplement with free drill tests from:
http://themathworksheetsite.com
The site makes reference to mastery of a particular topic (i.e. single digit addition) when the student can do the 5 minute drill -- all 100 possible equations within 5 minutes.

Softschools.com (http://www.softschools.com/) and math-drills.com (http://www.math-drills.com/) both have customizable drill sheets you can print off at no charge.
On the time of it... um, I am not sure (though I'm going to print off the one shared in this thread from logos school!) I generally have the kids do the online MUS drill - 20 questions - and if they get it in under 40sec., I'm happy. Of course, that's an online thing, which probably has a different dynamic than the written drills.

In Saxon 3, there are four minute drills with 100 problems. Students are supposed to get through at least 90 to be on target.
For what it's worth, I've quit bothering with the timed drills. My perfectionist ds8 just gets too frustrated when he can't think that fast and ends up a wreck. As long as he gets them right, I don't really care how "long" it takes him to work through the sheet.

Thank you so much for listing the math-drills website. I think it will be helpful to me and my ds, age 6!
