Dd has been dx with SPD but there is something else going on. The Dev. Ped. ruled out ASD basically because she makes eye contact.

Anyway, my Dad has a friend whose dd he says is just exactly like mine, but she has been dx as an aspie. I thought I read somewhere that many times Aspies , especially girl Aspies do make eye contact. Regardless, I am thinking that books about parenting and coping with Aspergers might help us.

It is interesting to me that so many dx seem based on the experience of the medical provider. This other girl with the same behavior was dx as having Aspergers. My dd will likely end up dx with SPD and ADD (but she isn't hyperactive or inattentive...?). So many overlapping symptoms make it almost a role of the dice kwim?

I just want to deal with the underlying issue and see more of the sweet little girl that pops out of my dd sometimes. It's like this amazing little person is locked inside the struggling, fighting, volatile girl and can only come to the surface occasionally.

Tony Attwood seems to be "the guy". His latest, The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome, was really good. I remember that it addressed specific differences between the male and female expression of Aspergers. It should be in your library- if not, see if they will add it to the catalog (mine did :)).

Anything by Tony Attwood. He has a video series that may be able to get through the library. It was really helpful for us.

My family has Aspies and all of them make eye contact. Although it is often hard for them to make it for a long period of time.
