DH was approached about a possible job transfer to Anniston, AL. Is there anyone there, or around that area? If so, please tell me a little about it. :)

My father lives in southern Alabama, but it has been years since I have been down there, and I am sure northern and southern Alabama are very different. I say that knowing how different northern VA and southern VA -where we live- are! ;)

So, please share. I am also very interested in the homeschool laws for the state.

Thanks, hive!

My dh was also approached about putting in for a position here. (Ended up putting in for one in Tulsa instead.) He was stationed at Ft. McClellan a few years ago so I was around the area quite a bit.

There are some beautiful areas/homes, but for the most part it seemed quite run down. One thing that scared me (and I admit I didn't do a ton of research) was a lot of talk about ground water contamination. So if you and dh do choose to go, make sure you are informed. It might be nothing and perhaps someone else can give you more insight.

There was a town nearby, Oxford, I think. It was a little larger, had a few shops and a mall.

Good luck with your decision!

eta: I've researched so many potential new areas and have found www.city-data.com (http://www.city-data.com) to be helpful, especially the forums.

I appreciate the information, and will look into the water contamination. From reading other places online it looks like Oxford, Jacksonville or Alexandria may be possible options if the move does happen.

Any thoughts on any of these areas?
