I just signed up for a gmail account. I'm wondering if there were any problems. Seems to me I remember it not being really reliable.
Thanks!

I"m the president of a national dog breed club, with over 1,000 members. The Board of Directors as well as most of our standing and ad hoc committees use gmail and googlegroups almost exclusively for all club business. In fact, our Board meetings are conducted via email, using gmail accounts and a googlegroup set up for the board. We've done this for several years and never had a problem. Maybe we're lucky, but I highly recommend gmail--- very easy to use, as well. All discussions are kept organized in threaded lists.

I've used it for a few years now. It has been more reliable for me, than Yahoo ever was.
It threads the messages, and some people don't like that. If you reply to someone, and they reply to you, those messages are all grouped together, so it's easier for you to look back over your whole conversation if you need to remember a detail that you previously discussed. :D

My dd has used it for about 1 year and we've had no problems. Our local CC also uses it and has had no problems. I think it should be okay

We've been using it for over a year now and have had no problems with it. The spam filter does a good job of picking out the stuff you really don't want to see.

Not a problem here.
I have no idea how long I've been using it now...seems like forever!

I love it. I've had it for several years. There is no customer support. If you happen to forget or lose your password, you will have no way to retrieve your password.

The folks at CNET.com says that GMAIL is now the top rated mail service. Plus I don't think you can go wrong with anything that has to do with Google. Another Google feature you might like to look into is their Google Docs. You can sign up for their free account and use their word processing and spreadsheet features on any computer at anytime. I like this feature because I like to keep booklists on Googel Docs. If I'm at the library and forgot to bring my library list with me, I can use one of the library computers and log into my Google Doc. account and print up my library list.

It's been very reliable, in my experience. When I opened my account two years ago, though, gmail was still invite-only. During that time, I received absolutely no spam. Zilch. Now I get a good deal of spam. Granted, the filter works well, so it all goes into my spam folder. Still, I miss the days when it didn't get to me at all.

Thanks! I also use the computer at the library frequently and it would be nice to have my book list available!

No problems whatsoever. I've been using it for a long time. I hardly ever get spam as it's filtered quite effectively.

Another happy gmail user. I've been using it almost exclusively for 2 or maybe even 3 years. I like it for all of the reasons stated above.

Their spam filters are very good, but as Colleen just mentioned, I've noticed a few leaking through lately. I think that now I get maybe 2 per week.

I *love* my gmail! I have had my account for about a year...and didn't get my first piece of spam until recently...but the filter is amazing...it does not show up in my inbox.

I love the grouped messages.

And one of my favorite features is the calendar. My dh and I both have accounts...and we can sync our calendar. It's all color coded - one color for my stuff; another for his; a third for ours.

Reliability has *never* been a problem.

Wow, just 2 per week? I'm getting at least a dozen a day. Like I said, they do go into my spam folder, but it still bugs me...

It's funny because I've noticed this in the past couple of weeks too. Oh no!! The spammers are getting smarter!! :ack2:

Still, it's way less than I used to get (like 50 a day) with my server's e-mail address.

I left my yahoo email account for a gmail account. I had numerous problems with yahoo and haven't had any problems with gmail. My DH has had his gmail account since they first offered them and he's never had any problems either.

I love it. I've only had it since the beginning of the year but it's been great so far. I have it set up with my Outlook so it downloads everything there. But, when my e-mail crashed this week, I still had all of my old e-mails still on the gmail server so I didn't lose anything. My kids also have their e-mail on gmail and I have been very happy that they have not gotten a lot of garbage in their inboxes.

Yeah, I truly only have to delete spam a couple of times a week. Oh wait! I just reread what you said. I think that we're talking about two different things. I'm saying that the vast majority of my spam goes into my spam folder, which I ignore. When it has a couple thousand messages in it I empty the whole thing. About twice a week I'll find a spam message right in my regular inbox, and then I report it as spam (or phishing.)

So is that what you're talking about too?
