Dh already got me a Pandora bracelet, etc., for Mother's Day, and although I've heard the Excaliber dehydrator is the "best" he asked me to pick a dehydrator no more than $50 or so. For the minimal dehydrating I'd need to do I hope to find one for this price. Any ideas? How is the one at Walmart for $39-Nesco American Harvest? Anything online? Help! I've never used one and don't even know the key features I'd need. I'd just use it for simple stuff-drying out sprouted granola, fruits and veggies, etc. Thanks!

We own a Nesco which suits my purposes, dehydrating strawberries, peaches and blueberries (for my husbands cooked cereal in the winter), and tomatoes (to add to soups or whatever). I have never made jerky because I am not a beef/pork consumer, although I have been tempted to dry making fish jerky after meeting a chef who told me that he makes this for camping and snacks for the kids.

I think that if you are serious about dehydrating large quantities of food, you might want the Excalibur--although you can order more trays for the Nesco.
