I've looking at getting the Knights of the Square Table chess course from Winterpromise. This is the version for older kids.

Has anyone used this? Pros/cons. My ds already knows quite a few chess moves and quite easily beats me (not that I'm any good). Would this be a good thing to get for him?

We are currently using the WP Chess program for younger kids (mine were right on the borderline for each so I thought we would start at the beginning). I think the work can be accomplished (other than practice) in less than 1 hour a week. The rules and strategy portion are great and I see them benefiting from the exercises. They are beginning chess notation and other useful skills as well. They did play a bit before the class but the class is far more systematic training than DH (a chess competitor as a child) or I could offer.

Thanks for the info. I think that I will go ahead and order it. How is WinterPromise about shipping, are they fast or slow?

Slow. (If they happen to have the whole program in stock you might get it two weeks after ordering, but this time of year many things are not in stock and are drop-shipped from Amazon).
