View Full Version : How do you clean a wall where the paint just wipes right off with the rag?

We are in a rental. It was brand new when we moved in. I'm not even 100% sure the walls are painted - everything floor to ceiling is the same bright white.

Now, closing in on our year, the house is up for sale and we are starting to have showings. Problem is - how do I wash spots off the walls when all I do is wipe off the surface? I'm not sure it looks worse with dirty kid & dog spots or obvious discolored white marks. (I don't have paint or any touch up stuff - not exactly that I want to have to go down that route either.... iykwim)

What should I do? "We" have our first showing tomorrow. Cleaning for that is a whole other rant. (not looking forward to that)

thanks for any advice

My dh works in the coatings industry, so I hear about this stuff all the time. It sounds like the walls were either only painted with a primer, or were painted with a very cheap and/or watered down paint. There isn't much you can do to clean them. They would need to be repainted, or you'd just have to wash them and hope you don't wipe everything off to the drywall.
