Insurance won't cover ST. Ds 8.5 has expressive and receptive issues and doesn't have the r sound. The school also will not do anything so what do I do? Right now we can not afford to pay for speech as we are paying for VT.

TIA,
Kirstin

Do you have a friend who is a speech therapist who could do an evaluation and give you exercises to do at home?

Can you see if you qualify through the public school system?

Have you googled the internet to see if there are any books on doing ST at home?

Best wishes to you!!!

This might be worth checking out:

http://nathhan.org/ResourceRoom/straight_talk.htm

I've heard it mentioned several times, but my hser doesn't have articulation issues, so I've never used it.

Does the insurance cover ST for some things and just not this? If so you may still be able to get it by altering the diagnostic code or appealing the ruling.

Otherwise look for an Easter Seals or Shiners or another private clinic that has scholarships. We were able to get one that reduced our sessions to 6$ at one point.

Oh, so sorry! You did say that. I really hope you find a good solution soon! Maybe your pediatrician would have some resource ideas for you?

If there's a speech pathology program you might be able to get services through their clinic.

Also, like Cadam suggested, check out Shriners. I've heard good things about their speech therapy services.
