This would be for a 4th and 6th grader. Did you find any other types of kits that were good?
Thanks,
Karen
The only earth science Nutshell kit that we used was the one on rocks. That has been my favorite of all of them. I kept it to use again. There are several rock samples (maybe 15-20? It's been awhile since we did this.) The book takes you through experiments to test the rocks and identify them by their hardness, color, etc. I'm sure that you could find the same experiments in many other books, but I love that everything is included in the kit.

We used the Rocks kit here too and the boys (6 and 9 at the time)really enjoyed it. I loved having everything put together for me to pull out on a whim. I felt so organized!

Yes I love and have used many times Rock Origins. The Pond Study one is also good. Are there any other specific ones you're looking to use?

my favorites for earth science were:
fossil formations
earth and sun
rock origins
our changing earth
I also like destination moon, oceans in motion and the water cycle but not as much as the others.

Thanks everybody! I was thinking about Rock Origins, Our Changing Earth, and the one about the planets. I didn't see the Pond Study. We have a small pond down the street, so that would be nice.

I was really disappointed in fossil formations because I felt that I could have just picked up some plaster of paris from any local store and done the fossil casting on my own. We have tons of different shells, other fossils, mini-plastic critters, as they used, etc. So I think this one, along with the one on gears, seemed the most simplistic of all I've gotten. Now, I think they're okay for K or first grade; maybe even second - but not for older students.....
I do also own Oceans in Motion and Breaking Earth's Hold and like both of those.

I think it's actually called Pond and Stream, or something like that,
