we are driving from Florida to Michigan, hopefully in one day, just me and my 7 kids, and I'm wondering how I can find out if my 16yo dd with a permit can help drive part of the way.

anyone know how? or if it's necessary?

thanks,
Jodi

Her permit should allow her to drive in all states with you in the passenger seat. My dd has driven in 5 states so far. She is really proud of that!

How about DMV.org (http://www.dmv.org/drivers-license.php)?

Her permit should allow her to drive in all states with you in the passenger seat. My dd has driven in 5 states so far. She is really proud of that!I don't believe this is true. There used to be a good site that had it all tabulated--I printed it off when my ds had his learner's. The site now only has links to individual states' dmvs--http://www.ihscdea.org/permits.htm

Update: I found another page that has the information-- http://www.medeanews.org/parents_page.html

These are the states that do not accept other states' learner's permits (as of 2006):

Alaska
Arizona
D.C.
Hawaii
New Hampshire
New York City
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Vermont

These states have restrictions on out-of-state learner's permits, such as age or amount of time license has been held:
California--16
Connecticut--basically, not during 1st 60 days
Florida--only daylight for 1st 3 months, until 10 pm thereafter
Kentucky--must be 16, not between midnight and 6 am
Idaho--daylight only until 16
Indiana--must be 16 and one month
Maine--16
Maryland--15, 9 months
Massachusetts--16
Michigan--16
New York--16
North Carolina--16
North Dakota--16
Oklahoma--16
Rhode Island--as long as there is reciprocity between states
Texas--16
Utah--16
Wisconsin--16

There is more information for some of the states, so if there are particular ones you are interested in I could look up those.
