History for 7th and 4th grades next year. We did mostly SOTW vol 2 this year with some MOH vol 2 and even some Streams vol 1 and tons of literature thrown in. MOH vol 2 was a bit too "heavy handed" in church history for my likes and needs this year that is why I did more SOTW.

But, what about next year? My 7th grader to be feels SOTW talks down to her too much. What suggestions do you guys have???

I think that year schedules in some different spines specifically for the jr. high age group. I believe it is available as an e-book.

with a 7th grader.... have you looked at TOG? or Diana Waring? Or maybe just an "older" spine. My oldest is only 3rd grade, so I have no idea what the suggested books are for middle/high school - but you might look at amblesideonline/house of education. Maybe that would give you ideas you haven't found elsewhere. (www.amblesideonline.org)

is reading SOTW3 right now on his own. I'm doing SL7 with him and SOTW3 and 4 are scheduled for the year. Do you have these books? The SOTW books gradually go up for age appropriateness, with the last one being rated for 4-8 grade. The chapters are definitely longer to me for SOTW3. We just started this 5 weeks ago (pulled ds out of a private school) and history moves pretty fast. It is definitely not a hard read but keeps him engaged. His sister has been in SOTW3 all year, doing 1 or 2 chapters a week. He's been doing a chapter a day almost and may finish the book the same time as his sister. :) You could try looking into Sonlight to see if it is an option for you, but your kids would then move at different paces.

We are finishing up MOH2 with The Story of the Middle Ages and are going to use The Story of the Renaissance and Reformation for MOH3. I love these and we did them as read alouds the first time around. Now my 7th grader reads them herself.
I am looking at the Synge books on www.mainlesson.com to go even deeper this year, they look great.
