Book suggestions for 13yo boy

I am looking to buy a nice hardback picture book for my son. His interests are:

war/battles
maps
anything with science

He likes to read textbooks and encyclopedias for fun. Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone? TIA!

My ds has enjoyed both Battles of the Ancient World (link provided below) and Battles of the Medieval World. Both books are FULL of pictures and huge maps ...lots of information too!

I think I bought these for my son when he was about 10...almost 11. It was easy enough for him to read, but they are written for adults. He LOVES both books.
