I read the thread about Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover book. Dh and I are working on debt (ugh). With all the talk about "the rebate" I want to make we use it wisely.
I have not read the book and saw that it is available at our local BN. The workbook is also available, should I get this as well?
Thanks.

We used the book but not the workbook, though I think it would be helpful. It has helped us a lot! Beware, though...we ended up selling our house and moving cross-country to a cheaper location! Great for us, maybe too extreme for everyone!! ;)

Wow!! You're good. I was thinking more...umm - baby steps?:D Although, we should get a little extreme (I don't know about moving cross-country) yet.;)
I haven't gotten any of DR's books, but I can tell you what listening to his radio show did for us:
-We moved to a place with a low COL.
-In a span of less than 18 months, we paid off over $10,000 in credit cards, student loans, and car debt. We paid cash for two new-to-us cars.
-We bought a house with a fifteen year note, the total mortgage of which is roughly equal to 18 months of DH's net income.
-While our house needs work and we still have a ton of education debt, we have a long term plan in place to pay for these things.
-Our children's college is taken care of.
-We pay a set amount into savings every month- this is paid, like a bill, in addition to our monthly escrow payment (which pays for car and homeowner's insurance, tag renewal, and property taxes).

I am just curious, several of you said you moved to a cheaper place to live. What general area did you move to? Don't the jobs in those areas also pay less?

Wow! That's GREAT! When is he on the radio ?(well, I'm in Virginia). I have to look into that. :cheers2: Bravo to you. I better get the book soon. :auto:
Thanks for sharing.

We used the actual book, not the workbook.
We paid off over $22,000 in about 9 months.
I can't recommend it highly enough.
It made a huge difference in our lives.
If you search these forums for "Dave Ramsey" you will find
posts wherein quite a few people have shared their success.
If you need help and a kick in the pants, borrow the book from the
library. Or just go ahead and invest in a copy. You may want to refer
to it beyond the time it takes you to read it.
Go for it!
