What if we went straight through the book, with AG, but no additional readings in about 20 weeks. Then, for the next 16 weeks, read through the additional readings in chronological order. At the end, it would be like going over the information twice in one year. My dd is interested in doing it that way. Can you think of pros/cons?
Thanks.

Pro - sounds nice and simple
Pro - what you said about going over the info twice.
Con - no depth as you go along
Con - what will she read for non-fiction during independent reading times? Science only? History from another time period? Or will your dd read fiction only?

I thought I could have the corresonding fiction available for reading time while we are going through SOTW. They could also be reading up on other subjects. Then, they could work through history, biographies, and historical novels in order after SOTW done. What do you think?

the read aloud really helped the history in SOTW come alive; my dc also remembered more about the characters we covered in more in depth ways. During weeks when I just read the chapter, asked review questions and did the map work, we all forgot what we had just read within a very short period of time :001_unsure:
So for us, it worked better to integrate the two.
However, ymmv :auto:
