My husband is Puerto Rican. I am looking for Puerto Rican children's music or spanish music in general to play for my children. My husband is very picky, BUT he cannot help me at all because he does not remember any of the songs that he listened to growing up. We are looking for upbeat or good spanish music that they can grow to like. Any suggestions? I have listened to a lot of samples and I am at a loss for good spanish music. I am a Christian so I would love to have Christian songs in spanish as well. HELP! :bigear:

I like Putmayo but my kids are learning spanish. They are nowhere close to fluent. I was hoping for songs like Buenos Dias (or Chocolate) or songs that are sung slower so we can talk about the individual words. Maybe a spanish version of "are you sleeping? are you sleeping? brother john?" I find most of the kid's spanish music is spoken too fast or a little out of date.

José Luis Orozco (http://www.joseluisorozco.com) - lots of CDs with traditional children's and teaching songs (like numbers), and each CD has an optional book with lyrics in Spanish and English.

I second Jose-Luis Orozco! Your library might have some of his CDs or books that have music and lyrics.
My current fav is Luis Pescetti (http://www.luispescetti.com/). His music is for Spanish speakers, but my kids still enjoy it even though they don't understand it all. Also, all of his songs are available as free downloads on his website and his lyrics are up too.
We use Jose-Luis Orozco's songs when we are memorizing one to sing (Los Pollitos Dicen, La Araña Pequenita, Buenos Dias) and Luis Pescetti when we are driving in the car and just listening for enjoyment.

Try the Angels Praise (http://www.angelspraise.com/store/) site. It has oodles of music. The samples I listened to sounded like typical contemporary Christian music, except with Spanish lyrics. Steve Green has some CDs of his music in Spanish (http://www.stevegreenministries.org/music/index.php#spanish), including a kids' CD. He was raised in South America by missionary parents. I bought a couple of CDs from Rejoice Music (http://www.rejoice-music.com/home.html). I love the Jimmy Alonso CD (http://www.rejoice-music.com/jimmy.html), although a lot of the music sounds alike. CBD has a sample that includes all the songs. CBD also has a lot of other music in Spanish. To find all of the Spanish music, go to the home page of CBD (http://www.christianbook.com/). Select "Spanish" under "All Products." Then pick "Music." You can then narrow it down to children's music. There are quite a few CDs for kids.

DS's absolute favorite is "Pedro Infante y sus Amigos Canciones Infantiles". It is Mexican, not Puerto Rican, and definitely old-fashioned (Pedro Infante died in 1957), but it has such a sweet sense of humor and is so catchy that I often find myself singing them and I, unlike DS, am very far from being a fluent Spanish speaker.
There is also an online site called Hello-World (http://www.hello-world.com/Spanish/songs.php) where you can find some traditional songs (un elefante, caballito blanco, la cucaracha, etc).

I love Jose Valle's music. He has fun , catchy songs accompanied by acoustic guitar, and some light percussion like shakers. I am very picky about kid's music, and I enjoy listening to this while they are not around!
