I'm looking at this for next year for a sixth grader. He has completed RightStart through Geometry and has done well. I'm wanting to postpone algebra another year so that he can mature. I'm looking for a math program to keep his math skills fresh and perhaps give him more practice in long division. Any thoughts about Fundamentals of Math? Likes, dislikes?

We struggled with Saxon and so I switched to BJU Fundamentals of Math. I liked it so much that we are using nothing but BJ Math this year for all 4 dc's. For me, the chapter approach works better and I find it much more intuitive to teach.

Did you use the Student Activity Book as well, or just the text? And was there review of concepts throughout the book?

Thanks.

At the end of each chapter, there is a cumulative review of prior concepts. Also, scattered throughout some of the lessons are some review problems, though not very many.

I am using BJ Pre-Algebra with my oldest and we are doing great. I could tell a big difference when we switched and did Fundamentals last year. My next ds is using Fundamentals this year and I am equally pleased.

I was able to find my textbook used but had to buy the TG new. I have been really pleased but math is my strongest subject so I enjoy teaching straight from the book. I don't really like the DVD & CD approach because this is my favorite subject to teach!!

Everyone is different so this might not be the case for you. I personally like their approach and methods, not too much or too little.

Now, if I could just figure out all these other subjects....
