Hi everyone,

I'm new here and brand new to classical education. We have one daughter who is a kindergartener this year. For first grade we plan to begin SOTW, FLL (she finished the OPG this past fall), Spelling Workout, HWT, and Horizons math. We also have three sons... one who is turning 4 in a couple of days and I'm going to start the OPG with him soon, a son who just turned 2, and one more son who is kicking away happily on the inside...expected arrival in late May probably.

A local friend of mine recently loaned me her copy of TWTM which I devoured in about a week and knew this was the way I want to teach my children. I had actually skimmed the book a few years ago and was completely overwhelmed! My dd wasn't even yet 3 and homeschooling was a very intimidating concept to me! Teach her Latin? (gulp!) Now that she is almost 6, using the suggestions and plan laid about by Wise and Bauer seems very doable and really exciting to me. Amazing how perspectives can change, huh? :)

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself!

Home-schoolers who change over later on have a much harder time than the ones starting up with it, laying good foundations!;)

Peace, Friederike

Welcome to the Hive!
I started hs'ing 3 years ago. I did a lot of research and read a lot of books. I first thought KONOs would be fun, and I investigated Charlotte Mason, too. Then a friend, who I highly respect and love a ton, turned me on to WTM. So far, dd 7 (2nd grade) is doing very well with the recommendations. Every time I use something SWB recommends, it works for us. The only exception was FLL, so I switched to Rod and Staff, but I'm finding myself thinking of going back--dd liked FLL a lot better, and we could do R&S next year, which happens to be the WTM recommendation! You see how it goes here.
Anyway, welcome, welcome, and don't be afraid to offer both questions and opinions. It's a sweet-spirited group.

Welcome to the community, Roses! We're glad to have you here. Homeschooling is a wonderful journey, and this is a great resource. Just remember that there are many ways to approach homeschooling and no "one best way". Follow your instincts, know that your children will probably each have different styles of learning, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and you all will be adapting and growing all along the way.

Enjoy!!!

to ask questions on the curriculum (K8) board. You'd be amazed at home many people are eager to share what they have learned the hard way.

Many people have had the CLICK of "that's the way" when they read WTM. I read every book I came across, and was planning on unschooling, but was "reading everything" as is my wont. My click was more like a horn blowing:
dut-da-daDAHHHHHH.
