What art, music, and science do you add to TOG?

Art and music is included loosely in TOG Redesign, I don't know anything about Classic as I have never seen it. For example week 11-19 in TOG2 is about the Renaissance. The lower levels LG, UG, D have a read aloud about Renaissance artists that last a few weeks, the Fine Arts & Activities involve learning about art and techniques.

Under each Year Plan at the TOG website there are tabs that apply to different areas in TOG. Fine Arts & Activities is one of them, there are suggestions for further exploration there which is an indication of what TOG provides as far as art/music.

And about science: http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/tog_fast/FAQ/Science/index.htm

As far as I understand and from what I've seen, TOG incorporates the history of science within history's timeline. In TOG2, week 14 we'll be reading Nicolaus Copernicus: The Earth Is a Planet (http://www.librarything.com/work/1223115/book/25525648) as a LG selection. This fits perfectly with WTM's science cycles so you can keep doing those with your choice of curriculum if you do them now.

For U.S. History, I've added paper/craft activity books to TOG instead of using their suggestions. I feel this will please my dd7 and combine coloring pages & activities with little needed from me. GRIN. This isn't to say that TOG's suggestions aren't great, they are but with any activities in a program- some will fit others better than some. :) I will use them the next go round when ds3 is in tow for less chance of chaos and they can do the activities together. The books we're using are like History Pockets, Hands-On History, etc. something that involves a little LA, coloring and paper craft work about the historical theme.

Added: TOG Redesign also schedules Artistic Pursuits, at least in TOG2 which we used before switching to TOG and next year in 3rd with TOG3, we'll use Discovering the Great Artists alongside and Drawing with Children for art lessons (not scheduled in TOG). For music we use Themes to Remember (not scheduled in TOG).

We have two goals for art/music: study them within history's framework and to have a concentrated effort of study outside of history. My dd7 also takes piano lessons.

Hope this helps,
Jessica

Art: At first we were making projects almost every week -- you can see some at History Project Pictures (http://web.mac.com/laander/iWeb/Site/History%20Project%20Pictures.html) We've slacked off on that but
are starting The Phonics of Drawing (http://teachartathome.com/) from Masterpiece Art Instruction

Music: So far...non-existent as a subject, but next year I'd like to use Harmony Fine Arts (http://www.harmonyfinearts.com/) (includes art too!)

Science: God's Design Science Plants (http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?sid=1201323034-1782989&subject=11&id=004093) (1st semester) and currently are using The Elements: Ingredients of the Universe (http://ellenjmchenry.com/id25.html) (which is a lot of fun!)

Hope all those links work!:D

Alright! *Ü* More TOG answers....

Right now... we just follow the selections when it comes up in our year plan for art and music. We are on year 3.

Science, my girls are using Apologia Astronomy and Biology along with Live and learn folds.

I am looking into artistic pursuits and also Harmony fine arts for art and music.....

Im just not sure yet.... we have a wonderful teacher/homeschool supply store here in our town and I placed an order for level 1 and 2 for Jr. High..... I want to look at it more.... see and touch*Ü*

The links Jessica provided are great! I love and use the Tapestry website for links almost daily (ok my kids) for history and anything else they may need.... Im so glad its available....

What art, music, and science do you add to TOG?

My kids do all sorts of art on their own, so we haven't yet covered formal art.

Music. There is a composer study in year 3...I want to say week 3. I decided to expand that and cover one composer every two weeks for the whole year. I bought the Classical Kids CD of stories and the music CD's, and we listen to only one for two weeks solid. I also buy a book on the composer or read about them on Wikipedia (sp?). We haven't cover instruments yet, though we have a bunch around that they play with (guitars, piano-ok keyboard, bongos, recorders...).

Science I covered in your other thread, so I won't repeat.
