she's finished the dress rehearsals for the opera Carmen and she is so cute. This has been such a great year for her, girl's choir, Intro to Latin ribbon and now this performance. God has really blessed her year. Take a peek at her costume, doesn't she look like she is out of Oliver????http://frogpond1.blogspot.com/

I love seeing kids follow their dreams. Brake a leg, as they say.

My kids are both theatre geeks, and my son did his first big opera this year as a member of the children's chorus in Turandot. He's got performances of Pirates of Penzance Junior this weekend and his dance recital coming up, but he's already asking about doing more opera next year. (Not to mention singing Nessun Dorma every morning in the shower.)
What a great experience for your daughter!

I think it is addictive for the mothers. It has been a blast just watching all the back stage work etc. I have brought things to do during practices and I find myself just entranced watching the singers perform. I hope she has a chance to do more.

Talk to me in three years or so, when she's done four shows a year, every year in between. Trust me, after a while you're more than happy to drop off the kid with the designated backstage mommy and run for your life!
I still love the shows, but lately I've decided I prefer not to be too involved in the rehearsals because it keeps the final product "fresh" for me. Even so, we all know the music by heart for every show before the child in question gets done.
There are definitely worse hobbies for a kiddo to have, though. I can't tell you how relieved I am, as a totally sports-uninterested person, to be raising theatre geeks instead of athletes!
