I went to Wolf Camera last week and they told me my Minolta X-70 lenses would fit the new Sony A-200. I was sooooo excited and went to look at it today again, hoping to buy. I took my Minolta and :tongue_smilie:, the lenses won't fit. Seems they are "Auto focus" but not totally so they won't work. They must still be manually focused in so they are the wrong type.
I didn't buy anything but want to look around for a good recommendation or link to report comparing different ones. Someone suggested the Rebel.

I did some research after Christmas - had $600 tops to spend - got a great deal from Amazon for a camera and a zoom lens - got the Olympus E-510 here is a link: http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/olympus-e510-guide.html this site also has info on the other comparable cameras (Nikon, etc).
I actually read a lot of reviews at Amazon before googling the Olympus to learn more about it.
I have an old Minotla SRT-202, alas, I could not use any of my old lens with a newer digital camera (fooey!!).

My husband bought the Olympus E-510 a month ago. He loves it! In his opinion, the key feature is that it is light weight, while performing as well as the Canon and Nikon counterparts.
Apparently Olympus now supports some auto focus lenses with an adaptor ring; however, no guarentee that your old lenses will work.

There's also an XTI now, but I don't need it.

And a newer one:

It's a wonderful camera. I have more to learn yet, though, since I've never learned the finer points of shooting manual settings.
I'm saving for a telephoto lens now :-)
There are some nice books at the bookstore about the Canon Rebels. I'm learning a lot of fun things!

I have the Canon Rebel XTi also and I also love it! I got a telephoto lens on ebay to go with it for a very good price.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I ordered the Rebel XTI as Wolf Camera has them on sale through tomorrow and I got a second lens for $99. I thought this was a good buy. I had a hard time deciding between the Canon and Olympus so thanks for all your info.

Check out the picture quality on the D70: http://instapundit.com/archives2/018340.php
I don't know how the other D-Series models compare, but they seem to have overall good reviews at Amazon. Someone else mentioned Digital Photography Review; that site's also good for comparing models.
