Hi,
I was looking for some resources for kindergarten science, social studies and history. I'm not looking for anything formal, but I'd like to do some fun weekly activities in these areas with my son and it would be helpful to have a list of topics, chapters, etc...so I don't get off track. It would also be great to have a list of complementary library books that we could read together. My son is 5. I'm interested in science concepts, learning about history, maps, other cultures, etc...Can anyone recommend a book, curriculum, etc...in these areas?

Thanks!
Roxanne

These have K lesson plans for those subjects and each plan will give you lots of library book ideas. http://www.cstone.net/~bcp/BCPIntro2.htm (http://www.cstone.net/%7Ebcp/BCPIntro2.htm) There is lots online for those topics too. I've got other links in my blog though I need to find a way to organize them by topics. But there is so much available online that would be fun for exploration.

Take a look at Five In A Row! Wonderful reading selections, and it covers those subjects in such a nice gentle way. It was our favorite part of K.

I think you might be looking for something like this:

What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know
(http://www.amazon.com/What-Your-Kindergartner-Needs-Know/dp/0385318413/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1290472532&sr=1-1)
It breaks down by subject and there are experiments, math activities, and historical figures to cover.

The link I linked above are lesson plans based on the core knowledge sequence covered in What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know. You can get the book or the sequence is also available free online (http://books.coreknowledge.org/home.php?cat=314)(along with lots of free lesson plans (http://www.coreknowledge.org/lesson-plans) even outside of what I posted).

I've never done it but many people have wonderful experiences with Five in a Row and there are lots of ideas online for that as well. We did read the books that Five in a Row uses and most were absolutely wonderful. Whatever you choose I hope you have fun!

:iagree: I used it with my older DD for K-1 and am using it for afterschooling K with my younger DD.
