Okay, I'm trying to remember the name of this Christian counseling program. I thought it was something like Raffa or something? I don't even know if it's still available but I was trying to find an associated hospital in Houston (at least it was back in 1996?).

Does anyone know what I'm talking about since I don't?

Obviously that doesn't even resemble Raffa but it is a Christian counseling/treatment program. I visited an Assembly of God church one weekend and heard their testimony. Not just for teens, adults as well.

... associated with Jay E. Adams? I know that doesn't sound like "Raffa" and I don't think they have a special hospital. But it might be an alternative....

Okay, I found it...sorta...it's RAPHA. And I found the guy that started it and his books. I also see A LOT of controversy, but I still can't find a website or program in Houston. Maybe they don't still do it but you'd think I could find out where they used to.

I appreciate y'all's help. I need this specific information though.

Thanks again :)

It rings a bell. Maybe call Focus on the Family and ask them for a suggestion?
(800) A-FAMILY (232-6459). The toll line is (719) 531-5181.

Pamela,

Is it treatment for addiction?

Can I help in any way? I'll celebrate 17 years clean and sober next month.

With Love,

Joanne

Years ago, I THINK in 1996, I was feeling suicidal and just plain YUCK. I had two young children and felt like I couldn't be the mom I wanted to be. I was WAY stuck at 12yrs old, feeling abandoned, acting out, dealing with abuse issues. I had gotten a book and in the back of it was a phone number which I called and that day (or the next) went into an in-patient treatment program in Bellaire (in Houston). Bipolar and ocd diagnoses were confirmed, I was started on medication, they were the ones that found the thyroid issue, etc.

The treatment program was good. I felt like I could let go of that hurt 12yo and become a young woman, a wife, a mom.

I don't hold the same beliefs I did back then and am not looking for Christian resources at this time. Instead, I'm in need of those medical records but can't figure out which hospital it was. I also saw professionals after I was released and need to find those people and get those records. But my brain is just not helping!

I was hoping if someone knew of the program that it may have a listing of counselors, doctors, hospitals associated so I could figure it out.

Thanks a ton y'all,
Pamela

It's RAPHA, but I don't know if they are still there. I used to hear a lot of advertising for them, but not lately.

I have a dear friend, though, who is in an excellent position to know everyone in that business in this area. S/he says the Meier Clinic is good, but avoid the Minrith Clinic. My friend didn't give details and I didn't ask, but I would trust this person with my life. So FWIW, there's my two cents'.

Minrith and Meier used to be together. Did they split up? (just curious)

Yes, years and years ago.

Just my two cents...I grew up with the Minirth and Meier families, and I'd choose the Minirth clinic anyday over the Meier clinic. They split for a very good reason! ;)
