My kiddo just started 3rd grade using SL Core 2. I want to add Latin but I am kind of nervous since I know nothing about Latin. Also, I have difficulty as it is getting in art appreciation, French, and music appreciation. I will have to work something out but if you were in my predicament with a hyper boy, what Latin program would you suggest?
TIA:eek:

I am looking forward to reading these replies, as well. What do you use for French?

We personally use Prima Latina with my 3rd grader. I also have no previous experience with Latin except what I have learned from the videos. We purchased the DVDs which are great because they have a review portion in the beginning before teaching the new lesson. We also purchased the flash cards. The lessons themselves are short in length which makes it easy to fit into any schedule. We do about one Chapter a week. We watch the video twice during the week, do the written lesson once, flash cards at least 2 times (including previous chapters), and then once a week I have him write each of the words and with translation. On average latin only takes 15-20 minutes per day. My son really enjoys the DVDs. I dont have any knowledge of the other program so this is a one sided personal review.

We used Prima last year... it was enjoyable. Both of my sons enjoyed it, even the five year old. I learned by watching the dvds with them.

I am having difficulty with the software. In fact, I hate it because I can't get the stupid SMS (Student Management System) to work or even have the standalone set up work properly. That aside, my ds loves it because it is like a game. My goal for him is exposure, fun, and speaking. I don't need for him to write me essays in French.

I used Prima Latina last year for my scatterbrained 3rd grade ds, and it was a good fit. He learned the material, and was well prepared for Latina Christiana this year, and the cd made teaching easy for me. We did a lesson a week.

We didn't have the DVD so maybe that why we didn't like it. But it was boring and repetitive and we didn't seem to get anywhere with it. We've switched to Lively Book of Latin and after one week, I can say it's much, much better. The kids still don't like doing latin, but LL packages it in small doses and it's varied--history one day, vocab the next, grammar, then derivatives, history, etc.--so they don't know what to expect when we open our books for the next lesson.
I have a boy, 10 (who became besotted with the Romans during SoTW1 last year) and a girl, 7.
