Can anyone suggest any books for a student who has had no previous grammar lessons? A friend has a dd approaching high school and has never done any grammar.
Thanks!

Analytical Grammar (http://www.analyticalgrammar.com/) can be done in a year for 8th grade and up. The videos at the website give you great information about it.

I will 2nd Analytical Grammar! It is a bit expensive but worth it and an older child with no previous grammar can use it.

I will third it. I am a math person, who managed to squeak by my Senior English class by reading Roots (yes, the whole book). Before I started hsing I could tell you what a noun and a verb were, but that was about it. My dd is younger, so we are using JAG, but it has been great for both of us (I have been going through it, saying one step ahead of her).
