Hi! I read the boards nearly every day, but rarely post. This is our first year homeschooling and I have ds9 and dd7. We've been using SOTW and have enjoyed it, but I must admit I'm not very organized. I feel as though I'm 'winging it' most of the time. We're getting things done, but it's not pretty!
I've looked at MFW and it seems as though it is scheduled out and organized. I'd like to know what you like about MFW and what you would change. Does the TM keep you on track and relatively organized or are you forever tweaking to get it how you want it? TIA! Nothing better than information from those who have BTDT!

We really love MFW. There really isn't anything I would change. It is simple and easy to use. They pick the best activities and books to use. I like that the books are very well reviewed so they are all very age appropriate. I get overwhelmed with to many choices for activities and things so I am glad to have someone else pick the best few and give me all the information I need to do them.
There are supply lists at the beginning of each section and the lesson plans are laid out very nicely. You can print out example plans from the web site. mfwbooks.com (My Father's World) I would love to answer any questions for you. We are using ECC this year.

I have used all of their programs from Kindergarten to Rome to Reformation (except Adventures, it wasn't written when my oldest was 2nd grade).
We love it. I find it very easy to implement. The TM is well laid out and easy to just grab it and go. The only things I do ahead of time is photocopies and finding library books for reading and book basket. Each week they list the supplies you need for science but I bought a kit so I didn't have to gather materials.
The book list is very helpful. They have choices for older and younger children so I can get age appropriate books for all of my children. I like their overall plan of training children to greater indepedence step by step to get them ready for college. I plan to use their curriculum all the way through high school.

I didn't want to jump the gun and start looking for greener pastures if I didn't need to. There are just so many choices out there, it can be a bit overwhelming to choose just one. The ease of the TM sounds like what I need. I'll check out the sample lessons. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

I am using MFW and thinking of switching to SL. I feel like it isn't deep enough and there's not enough info in the TM. The Bible is skimpy and so is the science. I want there to be more information than I need, just in case I need it. What problems did you have with SL?

I am using it this year for the 4th year (mfwK,first, adventures, ecc) ....all i have is good to say about it. It fits perfectly with my philosophy of education which is sweet, gentle lessons that serve to excite the younger ones with learning and still challenge the olders. i wont use anything else! Of course, I love the freedom to tweak anything i use! I will never be a slave to a curric. It is the perfect blend of CM and classical. Keeps me planned and organized;)

I used MFW K and loved it. It is very gentle. perfect for a 4 or 5 year old. I looked at Adventures and I liked the look of it but decided to use Heart Of Dakota. I think MFW lends itself well to enhancing and adding on.
