I'm trying to decide what to use with my 8th grade dd next year. This will be the last year she will be at home so I want to prepare her for high school. She will have biology freshman year. I am trying to decide between Apologia and Prentice Hall Science Explorers. I have Apologia Physical and general science. I used both with her older sister but she didn't like it, although this dd enjoys science. We used a few of the science explorers this year and dd liked them but I'm wondering if we would cover more topics with Apologia. Which program do you think would prepare her better for high school?

We also are using both Apologia and PH Science Explorer. Ds did the first half of General Science then we moved on to PH Forces & Motion and are finishing up our school year with Chemical Interactions. For now, science is more interest-based. It will be more prescribed for his high school years.

I think either program will be fine. You can get through about 1 PH per quarter or mix and match like we did. I think it's more important how the program is used. Learning to read for information, to apply the scientific method, to write a lab report. You can use either program to accomplish these objectives. If your dd shows more interest with the PH books I'd go that way.

Just my $.02.
