OK, gang, I'm sort of nervous to post this because I'm not sure it's "allowed."
I've read the FAQs and am still not sure.
Are any of you as confused (or, frustrated) as I am over ended threads sometimes? There are some thread where I have No Idea why a thread was ended (though sometimes it's pretty obvious).
Are some posts deleted from threads before they're ended (I read something in the FAQs that sometimes the only was posts can be deleted my admin is if the entire thread is closed)? Perhaps I misunderstood that.
What are your thoughts? I'm perplexed about this whole issue. I think I clearly must be missing something. It makes me hesitant to post anything, frankly. I never know if something I ask/say cuts the mustard with admins.

These were threads that had taken nasty turns. People were fighting, and the moderators needed to step in. They have a tough job. I don't know if anyone here has ever visited an unmoderated board, but it is very disturbing to see what comes from some people's hearts under the cloak of internet anonymity. I appreciate the job the PTB do maintaining peace and safety on this board.
My point is, don't worry too much about it. When the discussion takes a sour turn it is pretty obvious.

Well, I like you - but I must disagree here.
We can be anonymously nasty with negative reps.

I know, and that is unfortunate. Everyone is aware of the problem. But you see the nastiness is there, and this is why threads that turn nasty can not be allowed to run out of control.
And about those reps - I think we make too much out of them. I enjoy them, I think it is fun to pass out positive rep and I do so very liberally. However, the number of points or green squares next to my name does not determine my value as a person. There are far more people who think I make a positive contribution to this board than think otherwise. If someone posts thoughtful criticism, I would give it consideration. If someone threw negative rep at me just to be nasty, I would assume they have bigger peoblems than I do. :D What's a point or two loss when there are dozens to make up for it?

I agree. I didn't even know where to look on the screen to see my points until the other day!
I really think that if we can't post anon on the boards - we shouldn't be allowed in reps either.
As an aside - I hope you don't ever change your picture - it's how I know it's you.
I like Kelli in TN's pic too. All bits and pieces of her face.

I often identify people by their avatars. :001_smile:
I don't feel as strongly as some about the rep system being anonymous. I do feel as a matter of courtesy we should always leave a comment as to why negative rep is given. Otherwise the person may not know what they have done wrong. Our purpose should be to teach, not just punish.

:iagree:
Many thanks to the moderators who rarely step in but do keep this board a friendly, supportive and welcoming place.

I've been a mod and I've been a site admin before (on another site) and it's a drag. No matter what you do, someone's ticked about it. I'm glad this site is run the way it's run. I like the women here and I like that, for the most part, people conduct themselves with grace and kindness. I greatly dislike being surrounded by constant negativity, constant sarcasm, constantly feeling like I have to defend myself to people who really don't deserve a defense, if that makes sense. I'm speaking generally here; I've belonged to many message boards over the past 11 years and I find I enjoy the moderated ones far more than the "let it all out because you can" places.

was one of the threads where I couldn't understand why it was closed.
Really? I'm the only one who finds threads that have been ended and I have no idea why?
I'm not talking rep points or anything. I just wonder.
Are posts deleted from ended threads? If so, perhaps these deleted posts were the ones that caused threads to be closed.

I just looked at that one and didn't notice it being closed. Maybe there was another one that was like that?

Oh, my goodness!
Thanks for explaining. I understand now!
I thought that every thread that had "Last Post" on it was closed and the "Last Post" mean that it was the last post being allowed. Now, I realize it's just a quick means of getting readers to the end of a thread!
Oh, gosh. I just couldn't understand why the American Idol thread had to be closed!
ROTFL!!!
Thanks so, Melissa. I feel much better now!

The threads that ARE closed have a lock symbol on them - I think it looks like a padlock or combination lock or something like that. And it says "closed" somewhere on it. :)

That's why I would PM and never leave a negative rep. If someone is so out of control I would be wary of PMing....well, they are so far out there nothing I say will make a dent.

Melissa....yer so funny! This post has me ROTFLOL. Actually very few are 'closed' or locked...and those that are certainly need to be.

I should update the photo, actually. This one is at least two years old, and my hair is past my waist now. Need to get photographer hubby to help me out...
